Gate Archive @ Academy

This Gate Collection served as a state funded general library and video collection of work by artists who are of non-European cultural heritage. During the project 'Academy' as a project was developed in the Van Abbemuseum. This recent transfer has raised a series of questions about how to actualize its contents without reverting to outmoded practices of 'representing the other' and of giving visibility to the seemingly invisible. We took part of the Academy project which was a multi-collaboration between the Hamburger Kunstverein, the Vanabbe Museum Eindhoven, the MukHa , Antwerp, The Siemens Art Fund Munich, the Dept. of Visual Cultures Goldsmiths College and the 'Make World Study Group'.
