hospitality: "Just say yes to what turns up" jacques derrida Hospitality is the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way. This term is important to us practically for our public role as a museum but also in more philosophical ways. Taking our cue from Derrida he explains "hospitality must wait, extend itself toward the other, extend to the other the gifts, the site, the shelter and the cover; it must be ready to welcome." We think that it can significantly transform the role of the museum and its position in society if we act on this notion. It challenges us to reassess our criteria and methods.
